Seems like a pretty simple question, doesn’t it? However, this is one of this biggest challenges when it comes to SEO and online marketing.
This question also clearly reflects the fact that over 70% of all the websites out there struggle to get enough traffic.
However, we are not going to waste more time talking about how challenging this task is, as you probably already know that. In fact, that’s probably also the reason you’re reading this.
So with that being said, let’s take a look at what seem to be some of the most effective ways of attracting targeted traffic to your site.
Well, we know that you have probably read enough about the importance of content to last a lifetime. But to your surprise, this is a little different than what you think it is.
We aren’t talking about why you should be focusing on content a lot, or even why you should be developing great content. We simply want to talk about developing the right content!
So isn’t great content pretty much the right content? If not, what right content exactly is? Let us explain.
The very first thing you should be thinking about, even before you write the first word of your post, is what exactly your target audience is looking for. Social media can be a great resource for this, as well as forums specific to your niche, as these places are exactly where your target audience may be talking about their problems.
However, that’s not enough. Developing useful content is one thing, but attracting a lot of targeted traffic to it is another. After all, your target audience may not be consisting of influential bloggers and web sources you could get those precious links from.
Hence, you would also want to search for some influential bloggers and reputed sources in your niche, and find out what they are discussing currently.
Based on these two things, you can develop the type of content that both your target audience and influential bloggers and journalists are going to like. This will help you gain both great links as well as have a high level of engagement with your targeted audience, get leads, and convert them into sales. Not to mention get a ton of social shares.
The links and social shares would lead to a huge amount of organic and social (targeted) traffic.
Shralpin.com seems to be a great example of a website using this content strategy, as instead of having long informational articles, they have a lot of useful video content. The videos feature the skateboarding pros so both the target audience and the influential bloggers and journalists in the niche would be interested in them.
Some businesses seem to be getting great results with social media, while most other seem to be failing miserably. The thing is that you need to know how exactly to go about targeting the users who are most likely to convert into customers.
Apparently, most businesses get terrible conversion rates with social traffic, which is primarily because they don’t know exactly who should they be targeting. And this is definitely a make or break thing when it comes to getting targeted traffic from social media.
That being said, if you don’t have the resources, knowledge, and expertise to do it yourself, nor can invest enough time and money into learning the process, you may simply want to consider going with a social media service.
If you know how to find and target the right users, however, you may be able to build a huge fan following and consistently drive targeted traffic to your website from it. Natural Area Rugs is a pretty good example of what we are talking about, as it managed to build a Shralpin.com with a pretty impressive engagement rate, which is definitely quite an achievement given it’s an e-commerce business (which can probably be a huge challenge to promote on social media).
Basically, the idea is to find existing businesses or users with a large follower base, while also making sure they are in the same niche as yours, or as relevant to it as they possibly can be. Once you figure this out, the rest of the process is going to be pretty straightforward, as you would just have to try and connect with them.
Without good SEO practices, you will probably be getting nowhere in the long run. However, you would probably need to put in a lot of time and efforts into learning SEO, which may or may not be possible for you depending on the resources you have at your disposal.
If you have the budget, however, going with an SEO agency may turn out to be a safer bet, especially given SEO is incredibly easy to mess up.
But if you want to do everything on your own, you can start with optimizing your website for some important keywords related to your niche. This means developing quality content around some specific keywords that you think your target audience might search for.
If the content indeed offers value to your target audience and also talks about something bloggers and other sources in your niche are interested in (as discussed above), you’re sure to start getting quality links naturally from them. You can also go the extra mile by contacting these sources and asking them to take a look at your article.
Finally, another important thing you would want to keep in mind is that on-page optimization also includes the design and functionality of your website. If your website sports a 90s design, or makes it a struggle for the users to find what they are looking for, it’s definitely going to hurt your chances of not only getting targeted traffic through SEO, but also converting the traffic into leads and sales.
A good example of a basic but highly functional website would probably be Majestecsocal.com. However, the exact type of design you should be considering depends on your target audience and niche. In some niches (like the one the example website is based around), users would want to have everything in one place, and hence a basic but very functional design would hit the spot pretty well.
However, if you’re offering many different services and are in a very broad niche, you would probably want to focus on a cleaner and more attractive design, though without compromising on the functionality.
